Flying Fish

Flying Fish is our half-day preschool program for children 3-5 years old. It is guided by the understanding that children at this age learn and grow through play. The program offers an enriching environment for children to explore both inside the classroom and in our outdoor space, with caring guidance by our two master teachers and community of teaching parents. The curriculum emphasizes social-emotional development and incorporates anti-bias education through various aspects of play and problem-solving.

Children are also encouraged to follow their interests and deepen their understanding of the world through project-based learning. For children in their last year of preschool, kindergarten readiness is thoughtfully integrated into the curriculum.

Our Food Program serves a snack and lunch during the morning program and a snack during the afternoon program. Families can enroll in either the morning or afternoon program:

Early Learning Scholarship (formerly Preschool-For-All)San Francisco’s Office of Early Care and Education (OECE) partners with various preschools in the city to offer tuition subsidies for enrolled four-year-old children residing within San Francisco County, along with additional tuition support for families who income qualify. We are a current site through Preschool-For-All (PFA) and will be applying to extend this opportunity in the coming years. We cannot guarantee these subsidies, but are hopeful they will continue in the 2017-18 school year. PFA subsidy rates in 2016-17 were as follows:
• 2 days/week - none
• 3 days/week - $200/mo
• 4 days/week - $300/mo
• 5 days/week - $410/mo

The PFA tuition subsidy is not based on income eligibility and may be gifted back to Slippery Fish for the scholarship fund.

**Early Learning Scholarship tuition relief may be available for SF residents who meet income guidelines. The monthly income threshold for a family of four is $8283. Our application has space for you to indicate your need for tuition relief. Our director works with all families who might qualify for tuition relief through the Children’s Council of San Francisco.

Laura, parent of a Flying FishMy family joined Slippery Fish 3 years ago, when our first son was just 19 months. Of all the things I love about our school, I most appreciate the focus on our children's social and emotional development. My son was (and is) an energetic and vivacious person who needed lots of calm intervention early on, to learn to be gentle with his friends. I have such gratitude for his teachers, who have guided him with affection and patience, and a skill that is truly extraordinary. Our younger son is now thriving at our school, as well. We will be forever grateful for the loving guidance both our children have received at Slippery Fish.
Laine, parent of a Flying FishWe started at Slippery Fish when my oldest son was two and my younger son was one. The teachers and other families really welcomed us and made us feel like we were a part of a larger community with similar views on parenting and life in San Francisco. We are now at Slippery Fish with my youngest daughter who is 3, and I am looking forward to spending the next two years at Slippery Fish watching her learn and grow. It has been a absolute blessing to be able to watch all of my children blossom through the love and care given to them by the adults and children at Slippery Fish. Our family has learned valuable tools from our teachers and the other parents, which help immensely with our home and elementary school experience. Learning about positive discipline, non-violent communication, being flexible, and making sure our voices are being heard are all things that we will continue to use for the rest of our lives. My children will grow up strong because of their early exposure to such a holistic environment, and I am forever grateful to Slippery Fish for making that a possibility!

Parent Testimonial

We love Slippery Fish for a few key reasons: first, we are new parents learning everything for the first time and the strong parent community has enriched our growth as parents and supported our child's friendships and school experiences. Second, the school administration and staff are extremely caring and focus on each child and their unique development needs. And third, the positive discipline philosophy that is at the core of the school creates the type of environment we want for our child. It also helps us parents during each developmental milestone. We are excited to return for our son's final year before Kindergarten. We truly believe Slippery Fish has and will give him a very solid and positive foundation for his future."
